From the moment you enter your chosen hotel, you want everything regarding your booking to be perfect. From the service, to the cleanliness, to the overall experience … Most guests don’t really ask for much more than that.

Well most don’t … but what about the ones that do? Great Hotels of the World’s Member Hotels reveal their most demanding hotel guest stories! Get ready to gasp at these requests! Londa in Cyprus told us the story of a guest that arrived to the hotel as early as 6am and demanded direct check in as well as late check out the next day at 9pm! The guest refused to pay additional costs for this service and even demanded that he was given an upgrade from a side view room to a suite sea view! … Some people think they can get away with it all! Jetwing Lighthouse in Sri Lanka had a couple staying at their hotel for one week. They insisted that the hotel make up the room according to their standards as well as laying the table in different ways. One day the couple even went as far as bringing a whole big fish back to the hotel from the market and demanded the hotel chef to cook it for them. When the couple did not like the fish, they requested the chef go to the fish market himself and bring back the exact fish as the couple had bought the previous day as the guest wanted to cook it himself! The Capital Hotel in London had a guest who complained about London’s constant rain during their stay.

The guest shouted to a member of staff in the front hall, “What are you going to do about this?” The staff member thought this was more of a joke and politely replied that it was out of the hotel’s hands. However, the guest got seriously upset and demanded the hotel gave a discount on the room rate based on the bad weather! Elysium in Cyprus had a guest last summer residing in the hotel’s Royal Suite. She gave the Guest Relations team the strange request of finding her bathing suits that had to be of a very particular premium brand. Since the nearest boutique of that brand was located in the city of Limassol, it took three two-way trips by a hotel member of staff in order to borrow a few samples from the boutique for the guest to approve! Movenpick Hotel & Resort in Beirut has a regular guest who always orders that the Air Conditioning is turned off whenever he enters the hotel lobby bar, Hemingway’s Bar & Cigar Lounge. But the guest even insists on making a problem of it during the summer period and has had a fight with some of the hotel’s employees, physically hitting them if he did not get his way! Mediterranean Beach Hotel in Cyprus faced a consistent challenge with a guest right from the reservation stage of his booking.

The guest demanded to know every single detail about the hotel and the various room categories available. He then proceeded to change his reservation, not once, not twice but five times! Furthermore, over 50 pages of correspondence accumulated, including digital photos of a baby cot. When the guest finally arrived at the hotel, he requested to view three different room types before deciding on his favourite. Throughout his stay, the guest was a regular visitor to reception … which I’m sure did not surprise the hotel after their previous dealings with him! However, some hotels got stranger requests … The Monte da Quinta Suites in Portugal had one guest which requested to be sent the hotel bathroom measurements so that she could ensure that her baby cot would fit in it! She stated that her child snored a lot and therefore needed the cot to be placed in the bathroom so that she could sleep … This was not the last of a series of demanding requests! Eurostars Grand Marina in Barcelona had a guest who stayed for one week and demanded the hotel to leave specific perfume in his room as well as a special branded vanilla bar soap and only an orange towel set was allowed to be placed in the hotel bathroom! Forte Village in Italy has had to meet the requests of guests which include providing private jets or yachts, arranging special candlelit dinners for a guest which had to be close to the sea, not to mention delivering 300 roses to a guest’s room with only a few minutes notice! Absolute Hotel & Spa in Ireland recalled a client who requested ten extra chairs to be added to their room.

The guest demanded that she only wished to eat jelly, and even the jelly had to be of a specific colour! And, if this wasn’t enough, the guest requested that her own toilet paper be used in the room as well as demanding that she needed to be escorted everywhere!
