Share the Fun with FriendsOne of the tricks of making Fire Island affordable is sharing the fun with friends. Certain locations allow you to share your room or house with as many people as you like. Obviously, the more people who can split the bill, the cheaper the cost becomes. Seasons Bed & Breakfast, for example, located in the heart of Ocean Beach, Fire Island, offers houses to rent that can comfortably accommodate about 10 people. Rooms are equipped with bunk, king, and queen beds. There are common areas for cooking and grilling as well as outdoor areas. Everything is within walking distance on Fire Island, so you are close to the beach, restaurants and bars. You can rent a house for a weekend, a week or the season. The weekend will run over $1,000, but if you can find 10 people to share the fun, that's about $100 per person, which is a bargain on Fire Island. Seasons Bed & Breakfast Book Early, Book OftenPerhaps you prefer to have a place of your own. Maybe you want to share it with just one other special someone. There's still a way to get away to Fire Island without breaking the bank. If you can get to the Island before the busy season starts, certain places offer a discount. Seashore Condo Motel, for example, offers an "Early Bird Special." If you book between May to June 21st, you can get a room for $435 for the weekend. Split between two people, that's just over $100 a night. Since there's never really a dull moment on Fire Island, if your schedule is flexible and you want to spend a weekend there, going early will help save a buck or two. Seashore Condo Motel Call and Find a DealAnother solution is to shop around. Like anywhere else, hotels on Fire Island will always have last-minute cancellations they can book at a lower rate. When calling, do your research first. The going rate per night is just over $250 for a room. Some places offer a lower rate. Fire Island Hotel and Resort, for example, is on the lower end of the spectrum. There you can normally book a room for about $225 a night. It is a bit out of the way. Keep in mind that everything on Fire Island is within walking distance, but if you're staying at Fire Island Hotel and Resort, you are going to be walking farther. If you want a place smack in the middle but don't want to shell out the full price, call ahead. You might be able to find a last-minute open room.
